The Pre 3.1 Raiding Gear List: Part 1

I’ve done my pre-naxx gear list, I’ve also done my Christmas Wishlist, and with Ulduar so close I’ve debated if this list is of any value. Well, one thing is clear, It is going to take a couple of weeks before we know everything that is available in Ulduar. So, I’ve decided that some people may find this list helpful as they try and iron out their gear before the jump to Ulduar. It should also be helpful for people that aren’t ready to make that jump and are looking for the best gear out of T7. A few comments: 1. This post and the next one are designed after Kalon’s Bear gear lists ( 1 , 2 ) over at Think Tank. I liked his format so I’ve stolen it. 2. Badeggplant made a “Best in Slot” list and posted it on both the WoW forums and Moonkin Repository. You will find that my list and his list agree quite a bit, and there is nothing wrong with his list in my opinion. However, his list is also some what subjective and fairly short. 3. These rankings are purely based upon DPS. Yes, Stam and Mp5 have value, but there is no way to directly translate them into DPS. By the same token Intelligence and Spirit have both mana and DPS benefits, but only the DPS is considered. 4. Finally, I absolutely DO NOT recommend you trying to get the ever #1 item on this list. If you did you would have over 17% hit from gear alone. This list should be used to see how the different pieces relate to each other. Is there a comparable item? Which is the best slot to break the tier set? Assumptions: 1. I’ve chosen a very high gear level for this analysis. My hypothetical moonkin for this post has 2900 Spell Power, 46% Crit chance, 29.4% haste (16.2% from gear), and a 99.96% chance to hit. This maximizes the value of Crit Rating and Haste Rating, but Minimizes the value of Spell Power and Hit Rating. The main reason I did this is because if you follow the list your stats will be similar to these. 2. When assigning values to each of the stats I used Starfire and Wrath, but ignored all other spells including Moonfire and Insect Swarm. I’ve also weighted the Starfire values at about 75% and Wrath values at 25%. When I look at my own WWS reports Wrath does about a third of the damage Starfire does. 3. I assume that all socket bonus will be met. This is how I socket each gem: Meta = [Chaotic Skyflare Diamond] , Red = [ Runed Scarlet Ruby ] , Yellow = [Reckless Monarch Topaz] , Blue = [Purified Twilight Opal] . Yes, ignoring socket bonus will improve some of the items. However, the shifts would be small and it’s easier manage this way. 4. I’ve completely ignored the 2T7 set bonus. It’s impact is small. 5. I’ve translated the 4T7 set bonus into Crit rating to provide a value. Ranking Legend: Black – DPS stat ranking Red – DPS stat ranking minus Hit rating Blue – DPS stat ranking with 4T7 set bonus Green – DPS stat ranking with 4T7 set bonus minus Hit rating * – My pick for BiS Legs: * Leggings of the Wanton Spellcaster 340.8 219.3 340.8 219.3 Leggings of Atrophy 279.7 205.6 279.7 205.6 Legwraps of the Defeated Dragon 246.4 163.4 246.4 163.4 Leggings of Mortal Arrogance 234.6 234.6 234.6 234.6 Legguards of the Boneyard 219.4 219.4 219.4 219.4 Valorous Dreamwalker trousers 218.9 210 264.6 255.7 Distorted Limbs 204.1 204.1 204.1 204.1 Leggings of the Winged Serpent 203 203 203 203 Woven Bracae Leggings 199.5 199.5 199.5 199.5 Windripper Leggings 198.1 198.1 198.1 198.1 Heroes’ Dreamwalker Trousers 194.9 186 240.5 231.7 Desecrated Past 192.7 192.7 192.7 192.7 Leggings of the Instructor 192.4 192.4 192.4 192.4 Legguards of Composure 189.7 189.7 189.7 189.7 Leggings of Sapphiron 189.6 189.6 189.6 189.6 Splint-Bound Leggings 183.5 183.5 183.5 183.5 Earthgiving Legguards 140.6 140.6 140.6 140.6 Skirt of the Old Kingdom 127.7 127.7 127.7 127.7 This is the place where most Moonkin break their Tier set, and it is easy to see why. Even with the set bonus it’s not considered best in slot. Head: * Valorous Dreamwalker Cover 402.2 339.9 447.8 385.6 Heroes’ Dreamwalker Cover 353.8 300.4 399.4 346.1 Gothik’s Cowl 353.5 353.5 353.5 353.5 Hood of Rationality 349.6 349.6 349.6 349.6 Cowl of Vanity 340.7 340.7 340.7 340.7 Headpiece of Reconciliation 339.6 339.6 339.6 339.6 Enamored Cowl 325.8 325.8 325.8 325.8 Headpiece of Fungal Bloom 315.5 315.5 315.5 315.5 Cowl of Sheet Lightning 302.4 302.4 302.4 302.4 Cowl of Winged Fear 294.2 294.2 294.2 294.2 Noth’s Curse 291.3 291.3 291.3 291.3 Faerlina’s madness 241.6 155.6 241.6 155.6 Cowl of the Perished 201.8 201.8 201.8 201.8 Cowl of the Innocent Delight 153.5 153.5 153.5 153.5 For the Head slot the choice is clear. The tier items are BiS. If you have trouble getting a Tier helm make sure the one you do get has a meta socket. Shoulders: * Valorous Dreamwalker Mantle 216.1 164.3 261.8 209.9 Mantle of the Corrupted 207.9 153.1 207.9 153.1 Heroes Dreamwalker Mantle 188.5 145.5 234.1 191.1 Mantle of the Eternal Sentinel 185.8 185.8 185.8 185.8 Mantle of Dissemination 174.1 174.1 174.1 174.1 Mantle of the Fatigued Sage 172.8 120.9 172.8 120.9 Spaulders of Catatonia 168.6 168.6 168.6 168.6 Mantle of Shattered Kinship 155.7 155.7 155.7 155.7 Mantle of the Locusts 154.7 154.7 154.7 154.7 Sympathetic Amice 147.6 147.6 147.6 147.6 Miasma Mantle 136 136 136 136 Spaulders of the Monstrosity 132.5 132.5 132.5 132.5 Mantle of the Expansive Mind 132.3 132.3 132.3 132.3 Again, the Tier 7 shoulders are best in slot for us even without the set bonus. Since our 4T7 set bonus is so good it would be ridiculous to pass these up. Also, If you look at the blue column you can see that even the T7.10 shoulders are second BiS if you consider the set bonus. Chest: Gown of the Spell-Weaver 299 192.2 299 192.2 Heigan’s Putrid Vestments 274 201.4 274 201.4 * Valorous Dreamwalkers Vestments 257.2 257.2 302.8 302.8 Gown of Blaumeux 244.7 178 244.7 178 Ebonweave Robe 236.8 136 236.8 136 Heroes’ Dreamwalker Robe 227.6 227.6 273.3 273.3 The Sanctum’s Flowing Vestments 222.9 222.9 222.9 222.9 Digested Silken Robes 212.7 212.7 212.7 212.7 Vest of Vitality 212 212 212 212 Spellweave Robe 210.4 210.4 210.4 210.4 Robes of Mutation 205.5 205.5 205.5 205.5 Tunic of Pregudice 204.1 204.1 204.1 204.1 Fungi Stained Coverings 181 181 181 181 Blanketing Robes of Snow 180.2 180.2 180.2 180.2 Sympathy 167.4 167.4 167.4 167.4 Robes of the Crackling Flame 164.6 164.6 164.6 164.6 Robes of the Hoarse Breaths 164.6 164.6 164.6 164.6 Moonshroud Robe 142 142 142 142 Ok, this slot is the first slot where the choice might be a little confusing. Once again the Tier item is the Best in Slot item in my opinion. I believe this for two reasons. First, when you include the Set bonus into the calculation (blue column), you can see that the T7.25 chest jumps to the top. Second, four of the top five chests are there purely for the sheer quantity of hit rating they have. If your looking for more hit and arn’t close to the set bonus yet then these are good temporary options, but I think there are better places to get the hit. Hands: Gloves of Grandeur 198.4 142.1 198.4 142.1 Ebonweave Gloves 175.6 100 175.6 100 * Valorous Dreamwalker Gloves 164.3 164.3 209.9 209.9 Gloves of the Dancing Bear 157.2 157.2 157.2 157.2 Spellweave Gloves 153.9 153.9 153.9 153.9 Gloves of the Fallen Wizard 153.6 116.5 153.6 116.5 Gloves of Token Respect 151.8 151.8 151.8 151.8 Gloves of the Dark Gestures 150.3 113.2 150.3 113.2 Gloves of Peaceful Death 147.8 147.8 147.8 147.8 Heroes’ Dreamwalker Gloves 147.4 147.4 193.1 193.1 Wraps of the Persecuted 146.8 146.8 146.8 146.8 Gloves of Glistening Runes 143.2 143.2 143.2 143.2 Contagion Gloves 138.6 138.6 138.6 138.6 Handgrips of Turmoil 137.2 137.2 137.2 137.2 Overlook Handguards 104.7 104.7 104.7 104.7 Moonshroud Gloves 103.8 103.8 103.8 103.8 I could write almost the exact same thing for the cands as I did for the chest. There are a couple of items rated higher then the T7.25 gloves in pure stats but that is because of the amount of Hit on them and doesn’t include the set bonus. Once again the Tier item is best. Wrists: * Bindings of the Expansive Mind 153.9 112.4 153.9 112.4 * Unsullied Cuffs 134.4 134.4 134.4 134.4 Wraps of the Astral Traveler 127.2 85.7 127.2 85.7 Preceptor’s Bindings 126.2 77.3 126.2 77.3 Esteemed Bindings 125 125 125 125 Bands of Impurity 121.8 121.8 121.8 121.8 Swarm Bindings 118.4 118.4 118.4 118.4 Punctilious Bindings 117.8 117.8 117.8 117.8 Bindings of Yearning 113.6 113.6 113.6 113.6 Cuffs of the Shadow Ascendant 112.8 112.8 112.8 112.8 Azure Cloth Bindings 111.3 111.3 111.3 111.3 Plauge-Infected Bracers 105.1 105.1 105.1 105.1 Cuffs of Winged Levitation 104.6 104.6 104.6 104.6 Resurgent Phantom Bindings 103.5 103.5 103.5 103.5 Putrescent Bands 99.5 99.5 99.5 99.5 Bands of the Great Tree 84.6 84.6 84.6 84.6 I’ve marked two items as BiS here because it depends on your situation. If you are a Night Elf with a Draenei in your group then the Unsullied Cuffs are best. If your a Tarren or don’t have a Draenei in your group then the Bindings of the Expansive Mind are best. For alliance players, I recommend trying to get both and keep the one your not using in your bag. I regularly have a Draenei in my group so I usually use the cuffs, but I have the bindings in my bag just incase there aren’t enough Draenei to go around. The are some other very good options if you need hit, and the Plush Sash of Guzbah is very nice if you have some bad luck with drops or rolls. A leather caster item without spirit. On top of that they are fairly easy to obtain since they drop off of 10man Malygos. Notes: Ok, that is all of the primary armor evaluated. My next post will be out early next week and list all of the Jewelry and weapons. As you can see there are a lot of links in this post. It is quite possible that I messed some of them up. If you find an incorrect link please let me know so that I can correct it.
