Filed under: Breakfast topics , NPCs Vendors in the World of Warcraft have always been just sort of… there. They weren’t particularly exciting, specially in vanilla, where vendors didn’t sell anything really spectacular. Basic food & drinks , some low-level consumables, reagents, and of course your friendly armorsmiths for repairs. This got a little better over time, of course, when vendors in The Burning Crusade were selling better wares. The first expansion introduced tokens which could be exchanged for tier gear, and there were vendors that sold tier gear instead of them dropping from bosses. There were also the concept of badges or emblems, which were used as currency for more epic items. Of course, as always, Blizzard never passed up on the humorous side of things, so we also had vendors like Haris Pilton , who aside from selling awesome designer bags , also sold fashion items that eventually went out of fashion . It was a small step from the original game and it was fun. Blizzard upped the ante with Wrath of the Lich King , particularly in Dalaran, which houses some of the coolest vendors we’ve ever seen. I mean, we’ve got a freaking toy shop ! We’ve also got a pet shop with all sorts of awesome vanity pet items. Whereas vendors used to sell the most mundane things, some of them now sell the best items in the game for tokens, emblems, or even massive wads of Gold. I love how Blizzard has turned vendor NPCs from mere window dressing to integral parts of the game. Thanks to my wife’s generosity, I’m enjoying my Ring of the Kirin Tor , so I can set my hearthstone to Silvermoon but still have easy access to Dalaran. I (I mean she ) certainly wouldn’t mind more Gold sinks like that. What else should vendors sell? What do you think are the best things that can be bought off vendors? What else can Blizzard do to make our game more alive and interactive through these fixtures of our cities?
